The adventure began precisely in Kansas Topeka, Kansas state capital. In this city, in the early seventies, drummer Phil Ehart, guitarist Kerry Livgren and bassist Dave Hope, three school friends, decided to form a group that called Kansas. However, its beginnings were not easy. And after a few months, they decided to rename the group. White Clover converted welcomed in the violinist Robby Steinhardt training (an admission dangerous, because the violin has never had a bad atmosphere in the rock), guitarist Richard Williams and keyboardist Steve Walsh.

Concert after concert, the group was consolidated, recovered its original name and were discovered by famed producer Don Kirshner, who made them sign a contract with his own company (Kirshner) and released his first album, 'Kansas' (1975), clearly influenced by the experimental and progressive rock from Britain (Genesis and Yes, especially).
